to the invention of
the dock leveler in
the mid-1950's,
enterprising
warehouse men would
throw down a piece
of boiler plate to
"bridge"
the gap between
truck and dock. The
fatal flaw in this
concept was material
handling machines'
drive wheels would
cause the plate to
"shoot
back" into the
facility creating,
instead of avoiding
injuries. Since 1962
